Head of Kharg Island Oil Zone Abbas Qazi has said with the implementation of the project to collect excess gas from the fields on Kharg Island, the daily production capacity from the offshore and onshore field will increase to 800 million cubic feet.

Qazi told a group of reporters that 690 million cubic feet of natural gas are obtained daily from Kharg Zone. 140 million cubic feet out of the total are consumed and the rest are burnt, he added. The official said 550 million cubic feet of gas is usually burnt in the region. A project is under study to inject 120 million cubic feet of gas to wells so as prevent the gas being burnt and increase oil production, he said.

Qazi said about 140 million cubic feet of gas is consumed at methanol production complex and Kharg power plant. The official said the amount of oil exploited from Dorud oil field will reach 2.5 billion barrels in the next 25 years from present 1.5 billion barrels. He stressed that investments to the tune of dlrs 540 million is expected to be made in the project for expansion of Dorud oil field. The project that stated from 1999 will be implemented in five years.

Dorud oil field now holds 7.6 billion barrels of oil and 180,000 barrels increase is expected in the daily oil exploitation capacity. He said 16,000 barrels of oil is extracted daily from Dorud oil field. The Kharg oil fields produce 560,000 barrels of crude oil per day. 360,000 barrels of oil is extracted from the oil field. Elsewhere in the interview, Qazi said 42,000 barrels of crude oil is obtained from Foruzan Oil field a day. Under a project that will soon be operational, the Dorud's oil production capacity will rise to 117,000 barrels a day.

He said Abuzar's oil output is expected to reach 200,000 barrels a day by the current Iranian year end on March 20, 2002, from present 135,000 tons a day. Each oil well yields between 500 to 8,000 barrels of crude oil. In this line, extraction of oil from Iranian oil regions is expected to decrease by seven to eight percent a year. There are 181 oil wells in the region, 120 of which are active
